Ah, ok.. There are lots of abandoned industrial sites in the Ruhr area, but that's more like Bochum or Dortmund.

This is a fantastic photograph. It is so very deep in so many ways and goes way beyond composition, lighting and angle of attack or whether it was stolen from a museum or if its a desecrated relic . Doesn't this make you wonder who this was, what their hopes and dreams were, if they ever fell in love, how they lived, how they died and what they accomplished and contributed to the world while they were alive. More importantly what does this image say to the viewer about herself/himself and what emotions does it create within them? As you have said '...this is what we are reduced to in the end' but eventually even this will cease to exist and all that will remain, even after we are long forgotten, will be the residue of our actions or in-actions. Well done!

It's a surprising find, and it's not a good one, it looks like a stolen item from a museum abandoned there :(

No, it was "enshrined" in the church. But it seems that it was removed from its original place.

very nice composition! I also like the way the skull is angled

I'm going to go all existential on you right now =) but it saddens me to this that this is what we are reduced to in the end
