I have been always curious to see some urban-exploration photos. This photo of your's made me google about this underground railway and its quite interesting that they even had overhead-powered electric locos. Nice photo!

What on earth caused an upheaval like that? Earthquake?

No, the gypsum in the soil started to expand and pushed the floors upwards.

Reminds me of the DC Metro on Fallout 3. This almost makes you think "Is there a Ghoul around this corner?"

Nice photo, it has a rustic, brutally honest beauty about it.

Amazing. Simply great. I saw the gallery in flickr too, and it's great. The whole place looks so... war-y and steampunk. I kinda love steampunk designs, so no surprise why i like this.
By the way, how did you find the bunker?

Well, finding them is not the problem; they're all well-known and even described on Wikipedia. The problem is to find an entrance...

Well, the main part is subterranean, of course. But there were also combat blocks and personnel and ammunition entrees.

It reminds me of Aperture, at least in Portal 1.

Yes, they used small electrical trains to transport the ammunition to the combat blocks. The corridors are quite long, up to 2km.

The damage looks... old. It's been this way for a good long while.

Jeez, things like this remind me why war isn't good at all. Whatever could rip up a bunker like this in the 40s is pretty powerful.

The Germans didn't assault the Maginot Line, they just went around it.

The damage was done years after the bunker was abandoned. It's caused by the soil, which is composed of gypsum.

Ah. Still looks like it got hit hard by something.

Soil does that, I should know: where I live 60% of the soil has clay in its makeup.
